Gathering Together

This month of May has been a month of many transitions for me.  Everyone is aware of the death of Maya Angelou on May 28.  Prior to her death, a dear friend lost her 34 year old daughter suddenly on May 24.  Then on May 29, my 91 year old Godmother passed on.

In the spirit of all of these women, I am using the theme from Maya Angelou's second autobiography, Gather Together in My Name.  No one should have to go through the grieving/healing process alone.  In this day and age, if there is not a specific person or group of persons that you feel close to, there are groups in cyberspace where a connection can be made to help with getting through, getting up, moving forward to the next minute, the next, hour, the next day, even when you want to be alone.

Another reason to play the game of gathering together is to comfort, to provide compassion, and to assist with the next steps in one's life.  Can gathering together stop the hurting, the numbness, the sense of loss?  Maybe not completely, but sometimes just a strong arm, a gentle hug, or loving words can help a person go beyond the present and make positive adjustments.

The horizon leans forward, offering you space to place new steps of change.
